As a business contract writer with over 12 years drafting snow removal agreements for contractors across the Northeast and Midwest, I’ve created hundreds of snow plowing contracts that hold up in court and keep cash flowing all winter. Today I’m giving you my battle-tested free snow plow contract template – available as an editable Word doc and PDF – that you can download instantly and customize in minutes.
This free snow removal contract template works for seasonal contracts, per-push agreements, commercial lots, and residential driveways. It includes the clauses I’ve seen save contractors thousands in disputes (and the ones courts actually enforce).

Every winter I get the same call: “The client says I never agreed to plow at 1 inch – now they won’t pay $18,000 for the season.” Verbal agreements disappear faster than snow in April. According to the International Snow Removal Contractors Association, over 70% of payment disputes stem from unclear trigger depths and service descriptions.
A solid snow removal service contract protects both parties and qualifies your income properly for IRS reporting (see IRS Publication 334 for self-employed service providers at IRS.gov).

The #1 cause of disputes. Write “Snow plowing services commence when snowfall accumulation reaches two (2) inches as measured on untreated pavement at the Property.”
“Contractor will mobilize within 4 hours after snow cessation unless extreme conditions exist (20+ inches, blizzard warnings, etc.).”
Specify material (rock salt, calcium chloride, magnesium) and application rates. Many municipalities now restrict salt use – reference local ordinances.
Seasonal contracts should allow monthly or quarterly installments. Per-push clients need Net-10 or Net-15 terms.
I always include: “Contractor maintains General Liability insurance with minimum limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence and will provide certificate upon request.”

After running the numbers on 200+ accounts last year:
Do I need a lawyer to review my snow plowing contract?
For contracts under $50,000, my template has survived challenges in small claims court multiple times. Over that amount – yes, pay a local attorney $300 for peace of mind.
Can I use this snow removal contract template in Canada?
The structure works, but replace references to U.S. law and insurance minimums.
Is a handshake agreement legally binding?
Yes – but proving terms is nearly impossible. Always get it in writing.
